Our chess players became the winner of the European Championship for the third time. The success of the Azerbaijan chess players is a manifestation of the high state care for sports in our country. These words were said by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ismayil Ismayilov at the press conference organised for the winners of the European Championship on November 08, 2017. 
Deputy Minister said that the achievements gained in the sports are not limited only with the chess. The achievements in other kinds of sports are also evident. 
Vice President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF) Faig Hasanov said that the European Championship was the second test for the national team after the World Chess Olympiad: "Our goal was to get a place among the prize-winners and we achieved it. The most important thing was to eliminate the lack of confidence in our team. Our chess players have also achieved this.”
Appreciating the membership of our team in the European Championship, the Vice-President of the Federation said that our chess players opened a new page in the sport history of our country.
ACF Vice President Mahir Mammadov said that the Azerbaijan national team was sent as a favourite to the championship and highly appreciated the individual qualities of our chess players.
Speaking about the work done in the development of chess in our country, Mammadov said: "Our national team brought a great joy with its victory. I hope this success will be continued in the future because there are all the conditions in our country to succeed. We will try to win the Olympics and make our people happy."
