Gabil Mehdiyev
Gabil Mehdiyev was born on May 1, 1977 in the Babek region of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Azerbaijan Republic.
In 1984-1994 he studied at the secondary school No. 1 of Nehram village named after J. Mammadguluzade.
In 1994, he entered the Baku Institute of Social Management and Political Science (now called the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan) and graduated in 1998 with a degree on political science.
He graduated from the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports in 2012 with a bachelor's degree and in 2014 with a master's degree.
In 2013, he studied at the International Olympic Academy in Greece.
From 1998 to 2000 he worked as a correspondent and department head at the newspaper "Super Sport".
From March 24, 2000 to the present day he has been working as the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Idman" of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Hundreds of articles on sports, as well as "Heydar Aliyev and Azerbaijani sports", "The road started 10 years ago", "President Ilham Aliyev and 5 years of our sport", "Legal documents on physical culture and sports", "The road to the summit", He is the author of the books "Azerbaijani boxing in 80 years", "Olympic sports complexes in Azerbaijan", "Great protector of sports", "Honorable life".
In parallel with his current position, in 2002-2005 he was the editor of the newspaper "Tourism News". He is the editor of the sports diary "Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan", published in February 2009.
In 2001, 2002 and 2004 he won the I, II and IV Republican competitions of Young Journalists. He was named "Sports Journalist of the Year" in 2008 and 2016.
The "Idman" newspaper headed by him was selected as the best sports publication of 2002 and 2014. The monthly sports magazine "Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan", of which he is the editor, was awarded the title of the best sports publication in 2009. In the same year, his book "The Road to the Top" was awarded a special prize in the nomination of the best book on sports. The portal www.azsport.az, operating under his leadership, was named the best sports site in 2011.
He was repeatedly awarded honorary diplomas of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Defense, the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan, various journalistic organizations, sports societies and federations.
He was awarded the gold medal "Best Patriotic Journalist" (2010), founded by the publishing house "Europe". He is a laureate of the "Golden Pen" award.
In connection with military service in 2005-2006, he served as a military correspondent for the Defense Ministry's "Azerbaijan Army" newspaper. He is currently a reserve officer with the rank of senior lieutenant.
He is a member of the New Azerbaijan Party, the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan, the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) and the Union of Journalists of Azerbaijan.
The National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan is a member of the Fair Play Commission.
He was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Journalist" by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 658 dated December 22, 2009.
He was awarded the "Tərəqqi" (Progress) medal by the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 7, 2012.
By the decision of the Board of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated June 13, 2014, he was awarded the title of "Honorary Worker of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan."
He was awarded special prizes by the International Sports Press Association in 2014 and the European Sports Press Union in 2015.
In connection with the first European Games, in March-June 2015, he worked in the Information and Communications Department of the Baku European Games Operating Committee.
According to a 2015 opinion poll, he was named the best propagandist of the principles of justice and was awarded the prize of the Fair Play Commission of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan "Propagandist committed to the principles of fair play."
On October 9, 2015, he was awarded the "2015 Fair Play Service Medal" of the Turkish National Olympic Committee.
He is currently the President of the Sports Journalists Federation of Azerbaijan.
He is married. He has a daughter and a son.
